My Root family line made their presence early in America's history with John Roote arriving in 1640 and his wife Mary Kilbourne in 1635. Mary arrived on the ship Increase. The Root family settled in Farmington, Connecticut. My Root ancestors migrated west stopping for sometime in Portage, Ohio, where my great-great-grandmother Lucinda and three of her siblings were born. The family continued west to Michigan after their last child was born in Portage.
Lucinda Root was born to Reuben Root Jr. and Statira Oakley. Fortunately, a few pictures of Lucinda survived, the most prized photo is that of Lucinda and her children (all 10 boys and her daughter Lenora). In my Root line, there are two American Revolutionary War Patriots. Both Patriots were Lucinda's grandfathers, Joshua Root and Miles Oakley. Although both Joshua and Miles had their military experience documented in their Revolutionary War pension packets., Miles packet was considerably more detailed.
