Barbara Maria Kunigunda Keller
Barbara Maria "Kunigunda" Keller was born in Chicago in 1852 to an early Chicago settler, Valentin Keller. Adam Blickhahn married Kunigunda Keller in 1870. The Blickhahns were cigarmakers by trade. Adam and Kunigunda had 15 children, only nine surviving beyond their fifth year. Kunigunda survived the Chicago Fire in 1871. According to her obituary, she saved George, her one year old son, from their burning home. Once she carried George to safety, she returned to her home and attempted to save her feather bed. Her bed caught fire and she was forced to drop it, her face was scorched in her attempt. Kunigunda was 83 years old when she died in 1935. The Kellers and Blickhahns were members of St. Phillip's
Valentin Keller
Valentin Keller was born in Schifferstadt, Bavaria, Rheinish, Germany 8 Oct 1818, to Martin and Felizitas (Schlosser) Keller. Valentin immigrated to Chicago and was a successful furniture maker. In 1847, Valentin married Barbara Fiedler, who was born 22 May 1826 in Merkendorf, Bayern, Germany. Valentin and Barbara had five children. Valentin (in December), Barbara (the following May) died within six months of one another in 1889/1890 and their oldest son, died in January 1890. Only Kunigunda lived to see the 1900s.
