It is amazing that with two world wars and the destruction Germany sustained that so many records were preserved. While in Salt Lake, I located the church records for Valentin Keller and his parents and grandparents. So far, I have been able to locate the church records for the Blickhahn, Stange, and Keller families.
I've been working on the manilla files. My plan is to set up a manilla file for each of my ancestors and each of their children. I'm about 1/2 done and I will run out of files. Many of my ancestors had very large families. I've gone through 250 file folders and need approximately 200 more :). Getting more file folders (the red and blue hanging folders, and more manilla folders) will have to wait until I can get up to Fresno.

Step one done! I have the hanging files done, one file for each ancestral couple (at least for as many files as I had, I need to get at least more blue and red files). My Blickhahn/Seidelmann (blue files) and Stanley/Root (red) lines go back the furthest. When the number of ancestors doubles each generation, the number of files needed grows quickly. My goal for tomorrow is to work on the manilla folders and then it's on to filling them up with all those loose documents I've accumulated over the years. Maybe once I get everything filed, I'll know where the holes in my research are. I have so neglected my site over the past couple of months. Our trip to Salt Lake City was fun and productive; however, my Cleff line has continued to be elusive :(, but I did extend a couple of my other lines. I had to limit my research time somewhat as I had just had my gall bladder removed a couple weeks prior. Also I didn't prepare for the trip as well as I should have.
My goal for my Christmas Break is to organize my genealogy records. Waiting for Costco to open, my parents and I went into the Office Depot next door (they are at the end of their moving sale) and I found a beautiful Oak 2-drawer file cabinet for $32. My short term goal for today is to make room in the bedroom and set up my files. I finally found a replacement printer (an HP 8600 Pro) for my favorite printer that bit the dust a couple of years ago. My old printer was very cost effective to operate, and my new one is not only cost effective (the black xl cartridge gets 2300 copies and the color xl cartridges get 1300 copies), it has additional features, like wireless printing, printing from my cell phone (from anywhere), individual color cartridges (you only have to replace the empty cartridge), and does automatic duplex printing. On top of everything else, the price was great at the sale price of $149 (regularly $199). For anyone looking for a new printer, I highly recommend this printer. |
